Summary[]

Lost Kingdoms[]

Princess Katia is the heir to the crown of Alanjeh. She resides in Alanjeh Castle, where she departs on a journey to investigate the Black Fog. Katia takes the castle's Runestone, the royal Runestone gives Katia the power to command cards and summon them forth. The Princess has long brown hair tied at her Runestone with a long white shawl resembling a winged angel and red outfit underneath. Katia promises to find her father and determine the fate of the kingdoms and the world from the Black Fog.

"The disappearance of a small forest was the first sign of the approaching evil. One morning, villagers awoke to find a wall of fog where the forest had been. Some men that ventured into the pitch black mist were never heard from again...

It would not take long for the mist to enshroud the entire village. Where there had once been life now there was nothing but mist which turned day into night.

By ancient covenant, the rulers of the Five Kingdoms had banned all interaction between their nations.  Now, the Five Kings abandoned their isolation and met to look for a solution.  Sadly, none could offer a plan to defeat the fog.

Terrifying rumors spread throughout the land.  Some whispered tales of an ageless evil reawakened..."

– The prologue of Lost Kingdoms.

Lost Kingdoms II[]

Katia has been remembered as the first queen of Alanjeh. She is remembered as the hero who stopped the fog and brought 200 years of prosperity to the land. Statues and portraits of her can be seen in several locations in the game. There is a small passage written about Katia at the base of her portrait in the foyer of Alanjeh Castle in the level known as Royal Tower, Lower.

"Katia the Fair, First Queen of Argwyll

Queen Katia subdued the ancient gods of Destruction and Creation, bringing peace and stability to every corner of the land."

– Inscription at Alanjeh Castle

Spoilers

At the Sacred Battle Arena, it is revealed that Gurd has revived the souls of previous Runestone holders, and at the very end of Sacred Battle Arena 2 waits Queen Katia. Before entering her chamber, a Red Fairy can be collected.

"This way leads to Queen Katia's chamber. Queen Katia is very powerful. Are you sure you want to fight her?"
– Red Fairy

Her cards include the Sphinx, Doppelganger, Whip Worm, Steel Skeleton, and Demon Swordsman. The last of which is something of an odd choice, since it did not appear in her original game.

After defeating her, you are given a Doppelganger card, the ability to play as Katia in VS Mode, and the chance to "take on Katia’s responsibilities" once taken back to the world map. If "yes" is selected, you will be able to copy over the cards from a Lost Kingdoms save file in slot A or B of the Gamecube. This can only be done once per saved game.

Trivia[]

  • In the Japanese commercial for Lost Kingdoms, Katia is described as "perhaps the weakest hero in RPG history."
  • On From Software's official RUNE website, Katia's full name is listed as Katia Gerber. While this name is also mentioned in early English articles on Lost Kingdoms, it is not used or mentioned in-game.
  • There are two instances in the series where Katia is depicted with her hair not tied up. This is in the epilogue illustration at the end of Lost Kingdoms, and her portrait in Lost Kingdoms II.
  • The card used to select Katia with her normal outfit in the Two Player Mode of Lost Kingdoms is also shown in the credits of the same game. Oddly enough, the official art of the Doppelganger card has the exact same illustration placement and border of this card, while the in-game Doppelganger card shows less of Katia (or the Doppelganger taking her appearance) and has a different border.
  • In the Two Player Mode of Lost Kingdoms, the set of textures for used for the hair, face, and ribbons of Katia's three alternate colored outfits are identical to those used for her usual one, so her hair ribbons will stay red no matter which outfit is chosen.
