Wiki Updates

I've changed up a few things on the wiki recently.

I've changed the colors of the boxes on the main page and I've added a few things to the wiki navigation. There's a night theme now too! (Thanks for helping with the article background color, 🎃🎃Calico🎃🎃!)

How are things so far? Any suggestions?

Wishes for the Lost Kingdoms games are now on the Community Wishlist at GOG

Recently I added both Lost Kingdoms and Lost Kingdoms II to the Community Wishlist at Good Old Games, a video game digital distribution service like Steam that usually sells games without DRM.

DRM, or digital rights management, is something that's added to games that's used to prevent piracy, but it's very consumer unfriendly.  DRM makes it so that you're basically only renting a game because you can't make backups, so if something happens to the service that distributes it and the computer the game is installed on, it's gone forever.  Some forms of DRM can also cause performance issues, make games impossible to play without an internet connection, or be unsafe for computers in the worst of cases.

GOG's Community Wishlist is where users add …

Art from the old official site for RUNE II

This is a blog for some of the art for Lost Kingdoms II/RUNE II that was on the old version of Fromsoftware's website for RUNE II. All but three of these were found from three popup windows on the site's card index page. Clicking on any of the glowing objects in the image of the Kadishu Card Shop interior on this page or the three links underneath it will open one of these windows.

As of 11/19/2021, I'm having some difficulty navigating the popup windows. They also quit loading all together sometimes and redirect to a page saying they aren't archived. If this changes, I'll add the missing archived link to the Combos section.

These are images of the cards. There weren't images for every card on the site, so the numbers in the names for m…

New Layout, New Themes

Fandom is changing the layout of the wiki, so the old theme will be phased out early this summer.  Other wikis have been experiencing glitches from this, so there's a chance that this may have effected this wiki, too.

If you've opted in to test the new layout but want to change it back while it's still available, just go to the link below (or hover the cursor over your avatar in the Fandom navigation bar and click the "My Preferences" option that shows up), click the "Appearance" tab, and select "Oasis" under "Skins".

The new theme designer is easier to use, but I can't add backgrounds with it.  There is a way to do this by using CSS and JS, but I'm not at that skill level right now.

It's not all bad news, though!  The wiki can now have two s…

Japanese Text in Lost Kingdoms and Lost Kingdoms II

I was originally adding all the screenshots I thought could be used to translate these textures to the Easter Eggs page, but now I think this might be a better place for them. These screenshots are all here so the Easter Eggs page isn't as cluttered.

On the topic of a new theme:

I originally wanted to make the wiki have a darker theme, but it can cause eye strain and/or be difficult to read for some, so I'm sticking with a light theme with dark text. Dark is nice, but I don't want to hurt anyone's eyes or make it difficult to read for anyone.

For those that prefer a darker theme, I'm recommending this extension if you use Firefox:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/darkreader/

This extension also has an option for a light mode, so you can make other websites that have darker pages lighter if you prefer that instead.

I'm still thinking of changing the colors for the theme, so if you have any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them.

Good news! We can still access Talk Pages!

https://lostkingdoms.fandom.com/wiki/User_talk:Graysilene?redirect=no

Adding "redirect=no" to the end of a link for a Talk Page will take you to it.

This way we don't have to switch it back to access them.

3/14/2021 (#2):

I found out we can't have both Talk Pages and Message Walls at the same time, but the comments on the Talk Pages should still be there if we switch back to them.

If we continue to use Message Walls, the comments on Talk Pages won't be accessible. The same would go for the Message Walls if we switched back to Talk Pages.

I've requested enabling Discussions her…

Admin Adoption

Update 3/13/2021: I got both an admin and the bureaucrat position! I also made Taptroupe an admin.

It looks like making a blog for this is the one of the steps to take when trying to become an admin, so here's my attempt.

Being an admin is something I've never really done before, so it's kind of scary. I've made it this far, though, and I'm happy to help other Lost Kingdoms fans out.

I might not be the best choice since I can misunderstand things and I have difficulty communicating sometimes, but I am the most active at the moment, so I think I still have a good chance.

I'm going to try to become an admin now. If I manage to get the position before Taptroupe does, I'll try to make her an admin or a co-admin.

The fancy Fandom people are asking me to make a blog post regarding admin adoption so I am making it now.

Hello all! I was talking with Graysilene on Discord just now about admin adoption, so that this wiki can finally have an admin who wasn't last seen in 2007.

We actually had a discussion about this topic back in around the summertime in regards to making Realwinterbro an admin, but they are pretty busy with life thus I think that application did not go through. It's all cool, life happens. It feels like since the summer, the wiki has gotten much bigger, so I thought it would be a good time to bring it up again.

If you're checking this out, feel free to have your say on making me or any other user an admin. Their rules are pretty strict, though - they said i gotta edit more this week... Check out their guidelines and application form here.

Pazuzu Reference Post

I'm working on adding pictures of all the monsters to their respective pages, but I tend to take a lot of screenshots. If there are any monsters that I've taken what I think might be too many of these (like ten or more), I'll make a blog post for them so that the galleries on the monster pages won't be too big if there's like a limit or something.

If it's alright to add large amounts of these types of screenshots to pages, I don't mind doing both that and making these blogs.

This blog is a reference post for the Pazuzu. His design is so detailed that I couldn't stop taking pictures.

Need Help Finding a Certain Rare Monster in Lost Kingdoms

I've been trying to find all the rarely encountered enemy monsters in Lost Kingdoms so I can add info on exactly where to find them and get screenshots for both the respective location and monster pages. I think I've found most of them, but I've spent hours looking for a Berserker in Bernden Field and still haven't run into one. Has anyone found one there? And if so, do you remember where it was?

There are others I'm missing and/or haven't taken pictures of yet, but the Berserker is the one giving me the most trouble. If anyone else is currently playing through Lost Kingdoms on an emulator, can you please take a screenshot of of an enemy Berserker in Bernden Field and upload it here if you find it and I still can't by the time you do?

Rune II Webcomic Translation

I'm working on translating the Rune II webcomics. My Japanese is rudimentary and relies heavily on Jisho and Google Translate, so take all of it with a grain of salt and please correct me if you spot a mistake.

Panels are read right to left.

Rune II Regional Differences and an Exclusive Sidequest in Gromtull Desert.

Note for 8/28/2021:

I'm playing through the US version of Lost Kingdoms II again to take screenshots of Red Fairies for the location pages, and to find out if there are any differences compared to RUNE II in the Level Bonus selections, what's in each chest, and what cards enemy Runestone Masters use.

I've updated the "Level Bonus" section, the "Red Fairy Locations" section, the "Stuff I Haven't Taken Pictures of Yet and/ or Can't Record" section, the "Stuff I'm Not Sure About" section, the "Other Differences" section, the "Behavior" section, and the "Thanks!" section.

I'm making a blog here for the regional differences I've spotted in RUNE II, the Japanese release of Lost Kingdoms II.

I can't record audio, so I can't add samples of those diffe…

Demon Hound References

This is a reference post for the Demon Hound.

In Lost Kingdoms, the Demon Hound had individually modeled toes and it also had a fully modeled head and neck under its mane.

Due to graphical errors, the Demon Hound's mane lacks transparency and its spikes are only visible from one side in Lost Kingdoms II. Its mane even had this issue in the first game, but the spikes displayed correctly there.

I'm beginning to think the way its mane is textured is intentional. I have a feeling if the mane was textured like other monsters, it would have a line along the edge that would make other parts of it invisible. The way the mane is textured looks deliberate to me because of the shadows painted on it match with the shadows on its body.

Watermarked Images

I have uploaded several watermarked images to this wiki, but I'm not sure if they can be used. I don't have the permission to use these. What do we do with them? And is there a policy on watermarked images?

I'm going to add them here for now so if they need to be deleted, they will be easier to find. All these screenshots are pictures of earlier builds of the game. I think I found these on Unseen 64 before their reboot.

Most of these screenshots are from IGN, but I'm not sure where the last screenshot comes from. It doesn't have a watermark other than the FromSoftware one, so this one might be safe to use?

The card art is from RPGamer. If I had noticed the watermark on this one earlier, I wouldn't have uploaded it.

Template Ideas

Looking over the wiki, I've noticed a distinct lack of consistency in our pages. I think if we designed some templates, like one for Places, one for People, one for Monsters, etc. we could do a lot of good work in the realm of improving the look and feel of the wiki.

A song similar to the overworld music of Lost Kingdoms II.

This song has been one of my favorites. If there was a Lost Kingdoms themed rave party, this would probably be played there.

A small warning: the album has a scary face. I don't want to startle anyone, haha.

Are there any other textures that need to be uploaded

Edit 9 (2/16/2021):

Those mystery textures are for reflective surfaces. The Runestone is also reflective, so the majority of these textures displayed in this gallery are probably used on it. (Thanks, Xenolark!)

Hello again! I'm beginning to think I'm cluttering up the blog entries...

Anyway, I've been uploading plenty of textures lately, but I'm going to slow down a little. I don't want to post every single thing, but if there is something anyone wants me to dump, I will if I can. Please tell me if you need anything.

Right now, I'm working on three things:

  1. Getting all the map icons in Lost Kingdoms II. The only ones I haven't gotten of the icons are the first main icon of Alanjeh Castle and the main icon for the Sacred Battle Arena.
  2. Getting …

I'm playing through Lost Kingdoms II when I noticed something they might have used for Lost Kingdoms III.

Edit 4/26/2021: I added some speculation on how Thanatos may have been designed and the Necromancer's card number.

I was playing through the Nobleman’s Residence when I saw this.  In those rooms that are filled with weird statues and arches, there's a lot of egg shaped ones.  In this playthrough, I noticed some of those arches have mouths and limbs.

When I beat the level, I unlocked the Isamat Urbur stage.  I got to see the icon for the level more clearly.  All my previous playthoughs I always thought the top of that tower was a slanted roof, but now that I got a better look at it, I think what's at the top of that stage icon is a giant egg.

I haven't gotten to this point on this run, but I know at the end of that level there are all these f…

Asking about categories, page formats, card templates, etc...

Hello again!

I've been trying to tidy up the categorizing, adding pages for the cards that don't have them, and adding card templates and what info I can. I can't make up my mind on a lot of things right now and I wanted advice on how I should handle this.

I have a lot of questions, so I thought it might be better to ask it all in one post.

1. How should I categorize card pages?

There are many conflicting categories. How should they be titled?

(I won't be deleting any categories. I don't know how to, anyway. I'll still remove and/or replace any of them on the pages that need it.)

Example 1: "Card" or "Cards" ?

Example 2: "Water", "Water Monster", or "Water Element"?

Edit 3: Since the the first game refers to elements as attributes, should the e…

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

First of all, the RUNE 2 webcomics that were so graciously uploaded by Graysilene a few days ago! I've translated and typeset them, now I'm just refining bits and getting it proofread. Of course, I'll make a wiki page for it, but in the meantime, feel free to read about it here! I'm wondering about the best way to read them on this wikia software...

Secondly, this is something I haven't mentioned here yet, but.. did you know, From Software had a RUNE 2 Christmas desktop theme? An official desktop theme, complete with screensaver, wallpaper, icons, cursors, and sound effects!!!! I found it off the internet archive, …

I'm learning a bit on how to edit, so I'm leaving notes here on how to edit for those who need it.

(Note: The current latest update is from 3/27/2021. I removed one editing note on adding images to pages because it doesn't always work.)

Wiki Editing Notes (so far):

  • You can delete added categories to pages in edit mode by changing from visual editing to source editing.
  • Adding two [ symbols at the beginning and two ] symbols on the end of a word (or words) in source editing creates a word that links to its page.
  • Don't copy and paste numbered lists. The numbers won't line up right.
  • Put examples of code between the middle arrows to display the code instead of activating it: <nowiki></nowiki>
  • For redirecting pages: #redirect
  • If you're having trouble seeing newer recent blog entries on the Recent blog posts page, add "?action=purge" (without the …

Hello! I need help. I have the comics from the Rune II official website, but I'm worried about the copyrights.

Hi.  I'm completely new here and suffer from terrible social anxiety.
I have all three of the official comics on my computer.  I'm willing to upload these, but I want to make sure it is okay to.  I'm not sure how to categorize these and my nerves are frying my brain.
I also have what I believe to be official renders of some of the monsters in Lost Kingdoms II from a French website, but I'm not sure which site it came from.  I've had these images forever.
I'm not really very good at computer stuff, so please tell me if I'm doing something wrong.  Thanks!

Edit Notes: I found the edit button and fixed some typos. I also finished uploading what images I had.

Admin Adoption

Hey all! This is Chris, one of the bigger editors on the wiki (along with Taptroupe and SaintBriana) and I've been thinking about what to do about administrative privileges. The current admin, Rnnar, hasn't been active on the wiki since 2009, and a scenario Taptroupe and I ran into the other day brought to light the need for an active admin. I'd like to apply to adopt the wiki, but would like to get the opinions of the current users of the wiki before submitting a request! If you have anything to say, feel free to say it here!

the bare tummy conspiracy

Have you ever thought about why Lost Kingdoms has so many bare stomachs?

Listen. Aside from Katia and Tara, the main protagonists, Sol, Victor, the succubus card, the fairy cards, the incubus card, the lizardmen, the hobgoblins, god there's so many midriffs. Why?

Perhaps it's just a thing Takashi Kojo has a thing for. Perhaps like the bare feet of Fromsoftware games (???) the midriff is insisted upon by higher ups at the company. Like, don't the souls games have a hot tummy goddess? Interesting, isn't it.

This is a hotly debated topic among the people I speak with. Why would Katia expose her stomach to the cold terrains of Rohbach? Surely, Tara and Sol would be safer with covered stomachs when facing danger? Is there a benefit to baring one's…
